I had the honor  of winning first place in oils, in April 2010, with this painting, at Trinity Art Guild members only show.  This gourd dancer was at a pow wow in Socorrow, New Mexico.   The patch on his back designates he was on the USS VICTORY ship during war.

SPIRIT OF THE OWL has a special air about it, because we have an owl that frequents our property and drops feathers,  I gathered them to design the head piece for this painting.

NAVAJO, BIG BROTHER

Yes, this is the Big Brother to the young man in the painting, Little Brother.  Giclee prints are available.  The capote he is wearing is representative of coats wore in the pre-1840 period.  The Native American Indians would trade fur pelts with the Mountain Men to obtain these blankets and then make coats.  Some of the blankets that were traded to the Indians came from Hudson Bay Company.  The beaver fur pelts they received for the blankets were used to make the popular "top hats".  The blankets were sized accordingly to how many stripes were on them, which was at the bottom of the "coat".   They also traded for "trade beads", to make some of the beautiful necklaces they wore.

Pottery was made by Steve Sprinkle, a very good potter in Irving, TX.  He specializes in authentic pottery.  The leather of the spurs were made by Mahto, a retired saddle maker.  These are personal items my wife and I used when we used to do re-enactment activities. Special Edition, signed and numbered Giclee prints on canvas are available, size 14" x 11", $100.00. Matted prints available, size 14" x 11", $35.00 includes S&H
