Fine Artist, Mahto Hogue

Award winning Fine Artist Johnny Mahto Hogue was born and raised in Texas but has always admired the colors and ambiance of the Southwest, especially Native Americans and their home style and customs.
He has been interested and involved in art since an early age. Instead of wanting toys for gifts, he asked for an easel and art supplies.
He is a self taught artist, studying color, composition and anatomy. He is inspired by the Old Masters and the Modern Masters, (Norman Rockwell, Andrew Wyeth and Daniel Greene).
He visited the Four Corners Area in the late 1980's and fell in love with the area. He retired and returned there for a year, to pursue his art career full time. He has now returned to Texas, as his home base.
Medias include acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoals and pen and ink. He favors the oils because he achieves the perfection of the colors he desires, to accomplish the reality of the subject, which shows in all of his art works. He uses many personal items in his paintings: jewelry, chevron, glass beads, beaded medicine bags, leather pouches, toys, clothing, etc.
He has done numerous commissions of people, pets and vehicles, and when not doing commissions, he concentrates on what he enjoys most, and that is the Native Americans and their home styles. His work shows his dedication, discipline and execution of Fine Art.
Currently, he is a member of Mid Cities Fine Art, Trinity Art Guild and Pastel Society of the Southwest.
Mahto is teaching drawing/painting classes on Wednesdays, in BEDFORD, TX., at the Bedford Boys Ranch, in the Trinity Art Guild Gallery. Also, on Tuesday and Thursday , at 539 Robinson Rd., PONDER, TX 76259. If you have any questions please e mail or call. Remember, no question is too small.
